Nominations open for volunteer and/or philanthropy awards
The annual President’s Volunteerism & Philanthropy Awards (PVPA) is back and it is time to nominate a deserving senior volunteer.
Got a senior volunteer in mind who you think deserves to be rewarded for his or her work in the community? The annual President’s Volunteerism & Philanthropy Awards (PVPA) is back and nominations are open for a number of award categories including the President’s Award for Volunteerism and/or Philanthropy (Individual – Senior).
The award category, which was introduced last year, requires that the person nominated must be at least 65 years old this year and actively contributing for at least three years. The winner for the award last year was RSVP’s Ngiam Tong Yuen.
PVPA rewards those who have set benchmarks of excellence in encouraging the spirit of giving in Singapore. These awards represent the highest honour for giving to the community, be it in the arts, environment, social services, sports, education, healthcare or other worthy causes.
The desired outcome of PVPA is to inspire Singaporeans to greater giving, through the examples of winners whose work in giving; attitudes, values and beliefs embody the spirit of giving. Held on November 9 this year and organised by the National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre (NVPC), the awards aim to encourage and inspire others to bring about a higher level of volunteerism and philanthropy in Singapore. Giving could be in the form of time (volunteerism), money/in-kind (philanthropy) or advocating for the cause/need which results in the promotion of volunteerism and/or philanthropy.
Besides two new award categories including the President’s Award for Volunteerism and/or Philanthropy (Corporate – SME) and President’s Award for Volunteerism and/or Philanthropy (Educational Institution), the existing Informal Group category is now being known as the Kampong Spirit category to celebrate community-driven initiatives and revive a locally recognisable cultural value in modern Singapore.
Nominations will close on May 29, 2016. For more details on eligibility and the nomination process, visit the PVPA website at: http://pvpa.org.sg.
